How To Make Water Quality Tests Work Better When Using Kordon's AmQuel®+ Plus.

Kordon's Amquel+ Plus has a markedly new potent formula to detoxify/remove safely ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and other toxic nitrogen compounds in aquarium and pond water.  When making colorimetric water quality tests at the same time as using AmQuel+, it is important to understand the procedures that will provide better results.  This is because not only does AmQuel+ detoxify/remove all toxic nitrogen compounds, but also is capable of reducing or removing chemical dyes in the water, such as those used in colorimetric water quality test kits.

Therefore, when using those water tests that provide results by changing colors for the different readings, such as for color test strips, liquid reagents, and powder reagents, it is important to wait until AmQuel+ has finished its chemical reactions before making the water test.  Usually AmQuel+ completes all of its chemical reactions in a few minutes and then ceases in its activity.  Waiting at least ten minutes after using AmQuel+ before making a water test provides more accurate testing results, and this procedure is highly recommended.

Many of the less expensive water quality tests developed recently are not capable of recognizing or effectively presenting the test results of the chemical changes that occur, including when using AmQuel+. The reason is that the reagent dyes used in the test kits are less in amount and intensity.  And they are prone to be removed by their chemical reaction with AmQuel+.  The actions of AmQuel+ restrict the user from being able to see the full extent of color changes in the water tests.

However, many of these tests can provide helpful test results by using simple changes in testing procedure. This is done by waiting at least ten minutes after AmQuel+ has been added to the water, and by doing a two-step set of  "before-and-after" water tests that improve your ability to see the changes that AmQuel+ makes in the water quality.

Keep in mind that the amount of ammonia, nitrite or nitrate that is detoxified/removed by the action of AmQuel+ per dose is the absolute minimum under all water conditions.  Therefore, if the test reading is showing less than the minimum indicated in the instructions (1.2 ppm (= 1.2 mgl) for ammonia/ammonium, 2.0 for nitrites, and 13 for nitrates), when the test is showing that more than these amounts are present in the water, then the test kit reading is incorrect.  The test kit reagents may be out of date, or are otherwise ineffective and need to be replaced.
